HOLIDAYS...Fun???

So its been quite a while and I finally am free for a month. No uni and at the moment no job as well. Am I enjoying myself? I'm supposed to right, or that's what the point of holidays is. But NO I'm not. I am now 10 days into my Winter semester break and i already want to rip the hair off my head. Lets just say that sitting in bed all day listening to music, only moving to get food is not the most interesting thing in the world. Its not like I haven't tried to get busy, went around giving my resumes to random shops yesterday hoping that one of them would be mad enough to hire me. Planning to join the gym in a few days which eventually is gonna be less fun and more work (but what the hell, at least then i can eat my chips guilt free) and most of all with my plans of being student editor going down the drain i am now starting to regret not going back to Dubai for holidays.
That's weird right, one small plan tanks and your left wondering why did i put everything else on hold for that. I could been in Dubai with family and friends but instead I'm here counting down days to August 8Th. All this just cause I believed i had a shot at being chosen for the University magazine. Well that and also that i don't think my parents miss me enough to bring me back in around 2 months :P
All that aside i just had the most wonderful 8 days with my best friend who I had not met for more than 2 years. I swear if she was a guy we would've already been in one of those forever lasting relationships. We may be complete opposites one minute but we both know that no one gets each other the way we do. You realise your relationship is strong when even after 2 years of only talking occasionally you take 2 Min's to get back to cracking stupid jokes, laughing like lunatics and going completely crazy. Now even if it takes another 2 years for us to meet again at least I know that nothing will ever change.
Well even I know that this post was my way of passing some time so till i think of something innovative again its BUH BYE!!!

Im Not Changing..So Stop Trying!

As we go through life and meet new people we eventually somewhere down the line find someone we want to spend the rest of our lives with. Now considering that it is said that every individual is unique or even narrowing it down to an astrological element and saying that there are 12 kinds of people you have 1/12 chances of meeting your perfect match. The rest of the time when we may not be lucky enough to find our soul mates which results all relationship requiring a bit of compromise and sacrifice. But when do you reach that point where all you are doing is changing for the other person. How do you know when you have changed so much that you lost yourself completely. I am by nature loud, talkative, fun, confident (kind of arrogant, possessive, sarcastic) and overall quite a nut. But whatever I am..I'm Me. If you tell me you like me, if you get close to me is it wrong for me to assume that you are doing this because you like me for the human being i am, both qualities and flaws? I learnt how to accommodate to the point where i am sitting here and trying to figure out why did i not stop myself. Is love that blind? Maybe this is the reason there are commitment phobics out there. Its easy to be dominating in a relationship or if by nature you are one that likes to follow. But what about the people in the middle, the one's who are rational and know the right mix of the two. Where on one hand you may think that this quality is amazing, it is because of this that many a relationship have failed. Because we try to analyse and rationalise. Sometimes even the best relationship are based on utter nonsense, I'm not saying that theres no love, its just that the more you think the more you fight.
"I'm trying to change you for your own good" Anyone out there got this line from a boyfriend or girlfriend? Excuse me if i needed to change i would have in the last 19 years. Believe me i have had my chances. The one thing you want to turn around and ask this person is if they are in a relationship with you or a figment of their imagination that they want you to be.
I know this may sound egoistical but I LOVE ME..and i don't believe theres anyone out there i would want to change for anymore. Marilyn Monroe once said "I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best"
This is what I have to say:

You say you love me,then why the frown
You say I am a princess then where is my crown?
You say that i am special, then why should i not be me
You say I'm not good enough, then who should i be?

Not even for a moment did i try to change you
Somewhere overnight my ego and attitude flew
I forgot all the insults and all the hurt
But today I'm reduced to just dirt.

I could scream and make people cry
But today my tears refuse to dry.
For 18 odd years I used to be the best
But one boy came along and made me like the rest.

Enough is enough, not any more
It will take a year to heal,or maybe even four
But eventually ill laugh or at least smile
One day again you hear me from across a mile.

Okie while looking for that quote i found a couple more of Marilyn Monroe's quotes which i thought HAD to be shared.

*"I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together."

*"Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring."

*"A wise girl kisses but doesn't love, listens but doesn't believe, and leaves before she is left."

*"I don't know who invented high heels, but all women owe him a lot!"

*"When it comes down to it, I let them think what they want. If they care enough to bother with what I do, then I'm already better than them."

When I Say NO I Mean N-O!!!

The most intimate act between two individuals is the coming together as one. it is called making love for a reason. In today's world where values have changed and not many people wait for the right person till marriage. But at the end of the day these are choices made by individuals. You cannot blame a person for wanting something and then life's path changing somewhere down the line. As long as both the individuals involved have a mutual understanding and are fully aware of what they are getting into. If so then it results in two people being closer than one can imagine. Can lead to the creation of a new life. Sex is a result of feelings ,love and passion at the end of the day. Isn't it??

What happens when that choice is taken away from you? When you don't have a say about who touches your body. Your body is the single most precious thing you have that no one can claim rights on. Then why is it that everyday around the world women are subjected to sexual abuse and tormented just because some guy could not keep it in his pants. This is not about feminism or about telling the world that women are as smart as men. This is about asking for our basic rights, the right to our own decisions. When a lady gives her body to a man she does it with love and respect. With expectations that he will never hurt her. But when a girl is walking down the street or sitting in a bus and his hounded upon by beasts what can she do? She screams, she fights and sometimes in the worst cases she is silenced. One of the most vulgar, cheap and indecent acts of crime is rape. What does a man think when he forces himself upon a woman? does he feel more powerful? does he enjoy taking away her dignity and hurting her? Even asking these questions makes one shiver and you think how low would a person have to stoop to think like this. But not one, not two hundreds of men over the years have given into lust and greed. Women from ages of 8 to 80 are not safe in today's world and we need to educate our girls from a very young age about what touch is right and whats wrong. Offenders are not only random men on streets but sometimes present in our live and our families. Relationship abuse has gone so high that some women fear to trust a man anymore. The judicious systems attempts to catch such men and put them behind bar. The average sentence for sexual abuse is 3 years...Honestly i don't think that's enough. In murder you take away someones life but in such cases you make the victim live the rest of their lives with the memory of this horrific incident. So why is the penalty not the same.

A while back in Toronto a police inspector said that "Women who dress like sluts are asking for it". Excuse me, if we want it we know how to get it. We understand what flirting, what falling in love is and what the implications of our actions are. No woman no matter how she dresses or behaves deserves such torture. To take action against such thoughts in people a 'SlutWalk' was organised. People have revolted against the name saying it undermines women but tell me one thing, if this was call the "All Women March" would the cause change even one bit? This walk basically meant that ordinary women came down to streets to peacefully march against all sexual assaulter. Several men also joined this rally and one of the many slogans that i really liked was that "Really men know how to take a NO for an answer". This walk has now to come to New Delhi in India and a few days ago when i was going through twitter i was shocked at what certain men had to say. In today's modern generation where India is booming men say that this walk is against our culture and that Indian women just want to follow the west. Is out country free from rape? No it isn't, women who are clad from head to know are getting abused in villages. This protest solely wishes to educate the public against such crimes. To show the victims that they need not blame themselves. We fight against diseases,we fight on the basis of religion, we fight against corruption so maybe its high time we start fighting for ourselves. The walk further will also be conducted in Australia which shows that today's woman knows how to voice her opinion. She can fight with another woman but if you as a male even choose to torture of us you will power like you have never imagines. I am a girl and I know that we are still far away from escaping the notion of a male dominated world but for now all i am asking is let us at least fight for our basic rights.

She can be your mother, your sister, your friend, your love or just the girl sitting next to you on the train. She has a brain and heart and shes a creation of God. So learn how to treat her with respect.

Ready Steady Smile.... CHEESE!!

A Pathological Phototaker: Or so a little picture on the side of this blog says. I am one of those people who pleads guilty of having more than 2000 tagged pictures of myself on facebook, and most of these pictures are taken by me. No matter if i am going out for a party,to meet friends or just somewhere new i always have to have my trusted bright pink Sony camera with me. And on days when moments pop out of the blue, never fear cause my mobile is here. When i parted with my iPhone it had a total of 800 odd pictures in it in a matter of one year. And obviously that was all the uneventful events where my camera was not present. Though not a professional photographer myself i insisted that we get a Nikon professional for the 'family' and truly made use of it in the 17 days that i was in Dubai.

Cmon you gotta accept it makes this cake 10x better than it normally does. I love editing pictures and giving it different effects and constantly can spend hours on picnik. All this said what i truly wonder is whats is my big fascination with pictures. It is said that a picture is worth thousand words and maybe that's why most photographers enjoy candid pictures more than still life ones. I for one love taking pictures and most random moments where everyone is just busy with their day to day goings. Believe me when i say that they have always ended up being the most epic ones. Through grade 11 and 12 i used to sneak my phone into school only so that i could take so many pictures and albums on facebook are proof that i was successful. Someone once told me that they have never seen anyone upload pictures as fast as me. I still don't know if that was a compliment :P
From the sunrise to a baby's laugh everything seems more real in pictures. Its a way to save those moment that you may never get to live again. You get to see children grow up in pictures and laugh at the crazy stuff you wore years ago. People come and go but memories always remain and many a times the most material form you can transfer these memories into are pictures.

Old Is Gold, But New Is Diamond

Looks like all my posts recently are starting off with old sayings. The latest one tot he list is "Age over Beauty". No matter if it is sports, movies or books the classics will always rule the audience. Maybe its because everyone nowdays its just trying to redo what they have read or seen but you cant help but compare. But who says the greats had to be 50-60 years ago? Wht about in the last two decades?

Tonight at 12 am Australian time in the French Open 2011 Mens Final Roger Federer plays Rafael Nadal. This duo is known as the new age rivalry and even though there are many out there who wanted to see Novak Djokovic in the finals you cant ignore the enthusiasm to see these two play against each other. Tennis fanatics may argue that there were many great players before them but i have just been around for two decades and as far as i know 'Ro-ger' was one of the most common chants i heard in tennis and the only man to challenge that has been Nadal. After India winning the 2011 ICC cricket world cup you suddenly realise the magnitute of Sachin Tendulkar. Gone are the days of Kapil Dev and other cricket legends..Today sachin is litterally refered to as the God of cricket and on the other hand i have not seen anyone bowl as fast as Brett Lee. I may not be that big a sports buff but i do know you can play the same game over the years and somewhere out of the crowd will come out a great player. He doesnt have to be born in 1940..even a 1980 boy will do. All it takes is skill and hard work.

Another genre where people refer to classics is in the entertainment business. My dad always would listen to new artists and say "You want to hear good music, you rewind back a few years and hear the beatles". New age music is many a times condemed as loud and without soul. Old artists could play several instruments while most beats today are created digitally. But there are still people out there listening..Billboard charts still have rankind and 100 million copies are still selling. Music changes cause people change. You can never forget the sound of 'I just called to say I Love You' but you will still smile at a 'When you say nothing at all'. Todays movies are par exellence in form of story, graphics and technicalities. Take for instance epic cartoon such as The Jungle Book which will remain in childrens minds for generations to come, you cannot ignore the impact of 3D movies and the technology used for that. Even in matter of stories, yes it may be the same girl meet boy love story, but dialouges, actors, locations, etc is what makes a movie stand out. Granted not every movie is great..but it was the same case years back as well.

I am 19 i can still read the Harry Potter series ample number of times and yes i can even read Romeo and Juliet and enjoy the language and words. Books that were written by Shakespere were classics but today you have authors like JK Rowling and Stephanie Meyer who created worlds of their own. Nicholar Sparks and John Grisham books are made into movies. Given that marvel comics started years ago but till today digital comics are printed..in better quality by the way.

Media,Sports and Culture keep changing and if you cant accept that its gotten better than u atleast cant say that its gotten worst.

Domination Through Words

Its a very old saying that 'The Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword'. In today's generation i think that's more applicable than ever. With the deterioration in mob culture and the uprising of the media what is said and written is given a lot of importance. Maybe its just my fascination of crime shows but definitely today if your gonna hurt someone, cause violence or spread terror around the world YOU ARE GOING TO GET CAUGHT!!. Recent killing of Osama Bin Laden have shown this in true effect. Even though it took 9 long years but finally they got him. Words on the other hand are another different thing. In newspapers, magazines and books around the world so many things are said everyday which cannot be stopped. Call it freedom of speech or the right to ones own opinion but these words at times leave a lasting impact on peoples minds. No wonder today twitter does so well, unlike other social networking sites where people want to meet others twitter is all about putting your thoughts out there. In facebook language, its a constant status update portal. But we all follow our liked celebrities to know what they are thinking, we ourselves tweet about every thought that crosses our mind.We all wake up in the morning to open the newspaper with a cup of tea and dive into the world of journalists point of views. An editorial column will always let you know whats the ideology of the employees at a particular newspaper. Many a times different papers have varied opinions on similar topics. News channels broadcast different stories..Some may appeal to us and some may not. But you don't realise than unconsciously they leave an imprint on your mind. Even what i am doing at the present moment-blogging. This is my space,my niche to say what i want to and no one can stop me from that. Here i don't have to justify why i like certain things, why i oppose certain leader or why i follow certain cultures. If i stand in the middle of the street and scream out or protest, yes i am breaking laws and can be arrested for it. But if i write about it in a newspaper what are you going to do about it? Caricatures are another very modern way to ridicule things we don't believe in. Day in and day out cartoonists draw up strips to make fun of current affairs and we all have a good laugh at it. They aren't causing any trouble, are they?

A few days ago in Pakistan a journalist who wrote about certain sensitive matters was killed. That's how much the written word impacts people. If you can pick up your sword because someone picked up their pen it is very clear that you are agitated about it. I do understand that there are times when in the field of journalism people take advantage of power and write what they want to without considering other peoples feelings. But sometimes you think, isn't that the safest way to put your point across. If we think that is acceptable for each person to have a different opinion then it should be acceptable to voice this opinion.

A few years ago when i was considering journalism as a profession i read through different newspapers and magazines and since my genre was more into personal opinions than current affairs i was exposed to different styles of writing. Some write with an undertone of sarcasm, some see the world in black and white and some wake up every morning to the smell of roses. No matter if its this months issue of cosmopoliton or The Sunday Times, no matter if it talks about how to get a guy better in bed or if the carbon tax should be legalised in Australia, if you write it you can be sure someone out there is going to read it. And with each word that they read they think. And according to me if you can influence someone to think in a particular way, You seriously have created an impact.

Haha That Was NOT Funny!!

From days of charlie chaplin to tom and jerry mindless comedy has always managed to tickle the funny bone. There are days when you cant help but laugh at Mr.beans antics or the craziness of looney tunes. But humour is more of a subtle art than just in your face stuff. Shows such as FRIENDS, Big bang theory and How I Met Your Mother gave sarcasm, jokes and just plain funniness another meaning. The point was in the words along with the actions and this has been making today's generation laugh to the point where you can watch the same FRIENDS episode 10 times (Know almost every dialogue like i do) and still crack up. Then why is that this same generation fill movie halls for slapstick comedy's??

I just happened to read a review for a new Bollywood movie called READY..and for those of you not familiar with Hindi cinema, its one of the most awaited movies of the year and its plain 'Slapstick Funny'. The critic reviewing this movie has quite a reputation in the industry (however after this i don't feel like reading his stuff anymore). He claims it is a refreshment in peoples minds and a total fun movie to watch. I really want to know how much he was paid or has he lost his mind. Cause it cant be something other than the two of them. Today hindi cinema says its gone passed days of Shah Rukh Khan because romantic movies are too classy for them. And these are the same people who laugh at one man hitting 100 men and people putting the other person on frying pans. I am not a pseudointellectual prick who thinks that all this is below my level but cmon what do you mean by its a 'leave your brains at home' entertainer. How the hell is that even possible. I rather believe than i have a prince charming out there whose gonna sing for me than laugh at a house hanging at the edge of a cliff with 10 people running around inside it. In the era of movies like 3 Idiots, Rajneeti and Wake Up Sid when you see a Ready and a Yamala Pagla Deewana you realise why even the Indian audience prefers to watch english movies. At least the slapstick movies in Hollywood don't do that well and you still see more smart cinema being made. And the key companion of mindless comedy is over the top action. For generations together loud bizarre fighting movies have done well. The form a niche in society both in English and Hindi movies. Maybe one day ill understand the impact of these two genres. Till then please gimme some sensible humour that i can actually laugh at.

In the last half year i have sat through two movies where half the hall was bursting with laughter while the other half sat there wondering whats so funny. Well at least theres hope for some of us. Thank God For That!!
xoxo
